This vintage clay doll figure was made in Nakano, Nagano Prefecture.
Nakano is and always has been a town of clay doll craftsmen.

This figure is a traditional Japanese craft.
The doll is made of low-fired unglazed clay, coated with natural chalk powder (a kind of clay powder), and painted with mud paints.
Their rustic taste is loved by many people.

This figure was made for kids toys.
Therefore, very cute.

To be exact, she is a Maiko (in training as a Geisha) because she wears a flower ornament on her head.

Small hole in left neck.
