Vintage Japanese indigo-dyed Boro "Otoko-Sashi" sashiko rug

This rug is a special Sashiko Boro.

Great Sashiko stitching.
This stitch is called "Otoko-Sashi" ( man stitch ).

This Boro rug has been repeatedly stitched in repair.
It is very thick by being stitched over and over again.

Sashiko was women's work, but when it became too thick for women to sew, men sewed it. This is called "Otoko-Sashi". Men sew with a very thick needle.
It is a wild Sashiko stitch." If an item has been made with "Otoko-Sashi" stitches, the item itself is full of history.
All hand sewing with a lot of "Otoko-Sashi"sashiko stitching. 

"Otoko-Sashi" is also evidence of a history of many, many repairs.
It is rare and of the highest quality level.

This level of quality is hard to find even in Japan.
Museum level.
