About Shoiko & Boro Sakiori Straps:
Shoiko were used in rural Japan to carry heavy loads across long mountain paths. To make long journeys comfortable, farmwomen crafted custom shoulder straps using Sakiori (rag-weaving)—weaving torn strips of precious indigo-dyed Boro cotton rags around durable straw warp threads. This embodies the true essence of Mottainai (waste-not) and humble Japanese craftsmanship.
