Vintage Japanese paper Boro persimmon dyed Kakishibu (a-27)

This large piece of persimmon-dyed Japanese paper used to be used for the inside of boxes.

This is paper boro.
Layers and layers of paper were used to make it waterproof and strong.
Kakishibu dyeing protects the paper from insects and moisture.
The paper used is very old.
It is over 120 years old.

The more years pass, the more beautiful and wonderful its natural texture becomesThis item would not have survived to the present day if it had not been coated with persimmon tannin.

A nice collector's piece.
